Twitter Warns Users Against “State Sponsored” Cyber Attacks

Twitter Inc issued an alert to some users warning them that state sponsored hackers may have tried to obtain sensitive data from their account. This is the first such warning from the micro-blogging site. The notice said that there were no indications that the hackers obtained sensitive information from what it said was a small group of accounts. Twitter did not provide any further information about the attack or the possible suspect in its investigation. It is important to point towards the fact that Twitter’s notice is the latest amid concerns about cyber attacks by state sponsored organisation which have targeted government agencies, media outlets and businesses in the recent past.

It was reported that one organisation that said it had received the notice said the warning from Twitter said that attackers may have been trying to obtain information such as email addresses, IP addresses. It is important to point towards the fact that Google and Facebook have also started issuing warnings to users possibly targeted by state sponsored attacks. Many industry experts believe that social media accounts like Twitter, Facebook have become easy targets for hackers to obtain important personal information as more and more users sign up on social media.

Shares of Twitter Inc have been trending lower over the last couple of months. The stock currently trades below all daily moving averages which is considered to be a bearish signal. The relative strength index for the stock has given a sell signal indicative of the strong bearish momentum. The stock has been forming lower lows and lower highs which is considered to be bearish signal. Traders believe the stock could head to levels of $24.30 in the near term. The momentum indicators continue to form lower highs which continues to remain a cause for concern for traders.
