ODD COUPLE, PRESIDENT TRUMP AND PRESIDENT XI, TO MEET AT FIRST SUMMIT

The summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping is about to happen this week. Their meeting will not be known for discussing policy divisions, but will be a clash of personalities.

Both the presidents have only one thing in common that is restoring their nations to greatness. Apart from that, they both differ in every manner from each other, from their political style to diplomatic experiences, there is nothing in common.

Knowing Trump’s views on China platform, five months after the election, doubts are raised whether world’s two biggest economies can find common ground. Trump has also indicated by tweeting that it will be a very difficult meeting with the Chinese President.

On the other hand, few White House aides believe that senior adviser Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Trump, could be an influential moderating voice and could handle Xi in their talks on Thursday and Friday.

Even so, protocol-conscious Chinese are worried about unpredictable Trump as he could embarrass Xi publically as several foreign leaders have experienced awkward moments with him. All this is adding doubt, if two leaders could find a way on North Korea and expansive claims of China in the South China Sea.
